Today we are following on with another www.veg-inabox.co.uk  sponsored recipe, this time it’s Apple Cranberry & Papaya!

We all know the saying an apple a day keeps the doctor away but what about 5 apples? And some cranberries? And a papaya!!! What’s that little lot going to do for your good health? Quite a lot I would say 🙂 Well here’s the rundown of health benefits you can expect to yield from juicing these fruits long term.

Apples

One of the most widely consumed fruits on the planet, they literally grow everywhere and with their beautiful crisp taste and healthy reputation it’s no wonder they’re so widely cultivated and eaten.  Apples are extremely rich in important antioxidants and flavonoids. The antioxidants and phytonutrients in freshly pressed apple juice may help reduce the risk of developing heart disease, cancer, diabetes and hypertension.

Cranberries

Without doubt one of our favorite berries for juicing! They have a very tart taste but they’re insanely good for you, you can store them for ages and they are great for juicing with leafy green veg and soft fruits. Cranberries also have a number of beneficial health properties such as helping to reduce cancer tumor growth, they fight urinary tract infection and help to prevent heart disease. In fact you could call them an antioxidant powerhouse as they contain some of the most potent antioxidants out there like  anthocyanins, ellagic acid, quercetin, resveratrol, selenium, and vitamins A, C and E.

Papaya

You would think that Papaya would be too soft to juice but that’s not the case, they juice very easily and provide your juice with a unique flavour not found anywhere else. Not only are they easy to use and flavoursome, they are some of the healthiest food on the planet! Papaya can help lower cholesterol, help with weight loss, boost immunity, help your diabetes, improve eye health, soothe the symptoms of Arthritis, improve digestion, help to ease menstrual pain and slow the signs of aging!

Steps

Prepare your apples

Take out your apples and place them in a colander in the sink. Under warm running water, wash the apples to remove any dirt or pesticide residue. If your apples are organic you can go right ahead and chop them up for juicing but if they aren't I would advise that you peel them prior to putting them into your juice. Peel and core your apples before you juice them.

Wash your Cranberries

Place your Cranberries in a colander and rinse them under warm running water. As you rinse the berries feel for any that are soft or mushy and remove them. The berries should be hard not soft. Once you have removed the low quality berries rinse them around in the water and then drain them off ready for juicing.

Prepare your Papaya

First take the papaya and wash it under warm running water. Once the fruit is washed, take out a potato peeler and cut away the skin, the papaya should be nice and firm and the skin should come away easily. Once you have peeled the papaya, take it over to a chopping board and cut in half length wise.

Spoon out the seeds and your papaya is ready to be cut into segments for juicing.

Juice and enjoy

Take all of your fresh produce and transfer it to your chopping board. Cut it into small enough pieces that your juicer can comfortably handle.

The most difficult thing to for the juicer to handle is the papaya so alternate this with apple and Cranberry to help push it through your machine.

Pour and enjoy
